It's been a summer of extremes - wildfires prompting evacuations in the Cairngorms, a major moorland fire in Derbyshire, the driest July in two centuries, and people fleeing devastating fires across France and Spain. It's a reminder that the case for climate action isn't abstract, and neither is the response. But it's not the only story of this summer. People are already taking action for a fairer, healthier, safer future.

On the first day of Great Big Green Week, an 8ft puppet named Daniel set off through the streets of Chichester handing dandelions to passers-by. By the end of the day, 150 Morris dancers were filling Priory Park and a community choir was performing on the Cathedral Green. Behind it was Angela Buckley and the team at Chichester Festival Theatre - who's been building something in her community one year at a time. Read her story.

Great Big Green Week looks different everywhere you go. In Falmouth, it was snorkel safaris and basking shark processions. In Chichester, an 8ft puppet handing out dandelions. And in Forth, a small village in South Lanarkshire, it was garden gnomes.

Great Big Green Week 2026 is a wrap - and the numbers, the stories and the sheer scale of what happened across nine days in June tell a powerful story of community, togetherness and action. 1.6 million people. 10,000 events. And a week of action that is bigger, broader and more deeply rooted in communities across the UK than ever before. Climate and nature action has officially hit the mainstream.
