Hashtag Return of the Hedgehogs. A hedgehog made of collaged leaves sits next to the text. The two tone green Climate Coalition heart is a symbol of love for the planet.

We all love hedgehogs, but climate change, habitat loss and pollution are all big threats to the species, and unless we act, hedgehogs could eventually go extinct.

That's why The Climate Coalition teamed up on a unique project with the Epsom and Ewell community and The Wildlife Trusts, National Trust, Woodland Trust, CPRE Surrey and Surrey WI to draw attention to this prickly fact.

From Friday 25th to Sunday 27th March, 50 hedgehog sculptures, crafted by local residents, appeared across the borough to raise awareness of the impact of climate change and habitat loss on hedgehogs, and what we can do to help.

Each hedgehog  was accompanied by a practical tip on how to help them, from creating ‘wildlife corridors’ in your garden to cutting a hedgehog-sized hole in your gate. Why not try one of these tips at home?

Did you know, as well as making changes in your garden, you can create a better world for hedgehogs through the choices you make in your home? By doing small things to reduce the amount of energy we use, we can play a part in combating climate change. This reduces the impact on the breeding and hibernation patterns of our little spiky friends due to warming temperatures.

Everything we do at home and abroad to tackle climate change helps hedgehogs and protects our great British countryside for generations to come.
