HONG KIMLY

CAMBODIA, PROVINCIAL PROJECT MANAGER - DEVELOPMENT AND PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

Hong Kimly explains which are the main problems that his community is facing:

“The issues that effect communities here are land encroachment in community forestry areas, poverty, illegal fishing and climate change.  We help them to establish forestry patrol teams.  With the community forestry project we help them to meet together to raise issues that affect their community and solve their problems”

We have to do our part to help different communities around the world to adapt to climate change. Reducing our emissions is, hence, a crucial step:

“We support communities to establish agriculture groups who grow low land rice and vegetables and cash crops like soya beans.  We provide training, seeds and farm tools, irrigation pipes and electric pumps and plastic netting.  We also work with communities of adapting to climate change with drought and flood resistant seeds and helping villagers put in place community action plans which include details of the different problems they face at different times of year and what they can do to address those problems.   In this area the problem is largely flooding”
