A DATE FOR ACTION
Things don’t stop with the e-action, it’s all part of a wider campaign to make Scotland’s climate laws strong and ambitious. See our timeline below for what to expect during the bill process, and keep an eye on our updates page for news. You can also sign up to the SCCS newsletter for regular updates.
JUNE TO SEPTEMBER: FORMAL PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Scottish Government is seeking views on what should be in the Climate Change Act until 22nd September – this is where the e-action counts! The more replies, the better.
AUTUMN: POST CONSULTATION
Scottish Government collates and reflects on the responses they received during the consultation. They draft up a proposed Climate Change Bill and what it could entail.
NEW YEAR: DRAFT BILL
Scottish Government published its draft bill.
NEW YEAR - SPRING: STAGE 1
Scottish Parliament and MSPs listen to views and take evidence on what is in the draft bill. This is the chance for people to make their voices count about what is outlined in the bill and any changes to make it more ambitious.
SPRING: STAGE 2
Scottish Parliament and MSPs continue to take evidence and start to propose changes (known as amendments) to the bill. Look out for a mass lobby or a call to get in touch with your MSPs to let them know what you would like to see in the bill.
SPRING/SUMMER: STAGE 3
Full chamber debate in Parliament, MSPs vote on amended bill
SUMMER: ROYAL ASSENT
Bill becomes law!
