We are the Climate Coalition, the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change with a combined supporter base of more than 15 million people. We bring together over 100 organisations spanning nature, environment, international development, faith, community and women’s groups – from the National Trust to the NUS, WWF to the Women’s Institute, the RSPB to Islamic Relief.
We are working towards a cleaner, greener future, to protect the people, places and things that we love from climate change. Together we run the unique and ambitious Show The Love campaign to reach the mainstream British public and show politicians there is widespread support for action on climate change.
The issue of climate change has never been more important in the minds of communities across the UK. This is no longer something that belongs to a different time or place. It is our problem. And together we can solve it.
Join us in this exciting role - an interesting mix of strategic and hands-on work, playing a key part in our small central team. We’re looking for someone with ideas, experience, a can-do attitude, and a great relationship builder who’s excited about working collaboratively with our coalition members.
About the role
You will be responsible for developing the coalition’s communications strategy to ensure that our campaigns take people on a journey to climate action. You will lead on the delivery of communications and monitoring and evaluating digital performance. Your strategic thinking will span multiple channels with the aim of raising the profile and contributing to the success of our campaigns. You will lead on the development of digital tools and materials that enable a wide range of organisations to communicate effectively and engage their supporters around climate change.
Develop The Climate Coalition’s communications strategy to increase the visibility of the coalition and grow the success of our campaigns
Manage and develop our website, including producing effective copy.
Work closely with other members of the team to strategically plan, produce and sign off weekly social media content and campaign-specific social content
Consistently monitor and evaluate the performance of communications and adapt accordingly.
Responsible for the management of budgets relating to digital delivery of the campaign.
Network with other member organisations, co-developing content that is useful to members and promoting our tools and materials.
Manage the supporter e-mail lists and write engaging email copy.
Develop assets, such as share graphics, gifs, and films, to boost social media engagement.
Effectively create content that develops and promotes the voice of The Climate Coalition, such as community and schools resource packs, blogs.
Manage personal data that The Climate Coalition holds in line with legal requirements and good practice.
Stay up to date with the national conversation around action on climate change, including policy and political debates in current campaign areas.
Proven ability to think strategically in order to develop a compelling communications strategy for The Climate Coalition and its campaigns.
Proven experience of copy writing across web, email, print and social media.
Good knowledge and experience of website creation process, and knowledge of social media and digital marketing best practices.
Proven analytical skills, including web and social media analytics, to ensure proper monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Experience using Squarespace.
Strong project management skills, the ability to work to deadlines under pressure and to take projects forward without supervision.
Proven initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm in managing complex activities in a changing environment.
A proven commitment to teamwork, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate.
Passionate about tackling climate change and supportive of the aims and values of The Climate Coalition.
Good knowledge of current good practice in web and email design, including usability, accessibility and technology standards.
Experience using Adobe products (including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
Basic knowledge of HTML
Media experience and ability to draft press releases and contact journalists
Responsible for: Digital strategy, coordination and creation
